Hi Larry,

Wow- I have been staying up until 3am each night devouring your posts. This one, however, I keep coming back to. I understand how you would need the three aspects of this sections (retreat and regrouping, doomed attempt at action, and reminder of antagonistic force). Is it possible to have your pinch point within your doomed attempt to take action?

@Serena -- interesting question. Even when the antagonist reveals herself to actually be an ally soon after the Pinch Point, there still needs to be an antagonistic force in play. Even though the reader has been misled at the PP, it would/could STILL show a more generic version of the antagonist pressure becoming visible. A tough one, but doable. And interesting when executed well. That's my take, hope it helps. L.

Really helpful post.
I have a question, though, if you still read comments from old posts.
Would these rules about pinch points and showing the antagonistic force still apply if the one whom the character thought to be the antagonist is revealed to be an ally instead shortly after?

Now we're getting into the thick of it. Here's where I'm doggiepadling in a race. This is super helpful. You must be an awesome speaker. I'll have to go see you at a writer's Con. sometime. (Do you still do those?)

Thanks again.

Keep'em coming! You'll have me writing a novel before long, just to see if your generic architectural structure template works for beginners! (I do have a screenplay in my head that I haven't told you about, in case you make me do anything about it! ;) )
